This facility searches a database containing all current Ethnologue codes and all LINGUIST codes for ancient languages.
These two code-sets will be unified into a single set of codes this year.
Send an email to Professor Anthony Aristar at aristar linguistlist.org to make corrections to codes and their descriptions, or to request an additional code.
If you need to enter a non-ASCII character into the language-name field, type the closest character, and right-click on the field
to get a list of similar characters. Click on the character you want in the pop-up window.
If you cannot find a language name, try searching on a substring of that language,
e.g. to find "Tigrinya" search on "Tigr".
